The Heart of Amish Country

Set atop some of the most scenic hills in West Central Wisconsin, the village of Cashton and its surrounding townships are home to the largest Amish community in Wisconsin.

Before the convenience of roads, Cashton marked the spot of an old Native American Indian trail that led westward to the Mississippi River. It served as a trading post and rest stop for stagecoaches heading north towards Sparta and other cities. Today, Highways 27 and 33 provide easy access to the Cashton area.

Cashton was founded in 1879 when the Viroqua branch of the Milwaukee Railroad was built through the area.  William Henry Harrison Cash built that branch and acquired title to most of the land that Cashton now covers.

The residents of Cashton welcome you into the village, where you'll find the peace and quiet of small-town America. Stop in at the local retail shops, visit the 19-acre Cashton Park, dine at the friendly eateries and partake in some good old Midwestern hospitality.

Ages Past Bed & Breakfast

Visitors who travel the country roads surrounding Cashton will find panoramic views of beautiful hills and valleys.  Handcrafted Amish goods, including baked products, quilts, furniture, baskets and toys are available at various gift shops and Amish houses. Please respect the lifestyle of the Amish; there should be not picture-taking or Sunday sales.

Cashton continues to be a solid and progressive community.  The village catalyzes development through the Cashton Area Development Corporation, which is active in creating federal and state packages to spur progress at a local level.

A trip through Cashton can't be missed.  From the pleasant rolling hills to a warm and welcoming community, this unique village is where the heart of the country can be found.
