May 17   Fort Mc Coy Open House  
    This is a free event at Ft Mc Coy. Activities include historic military displays, guided tours of installation, training displays, interactive shooting van, military equipment, face painting, personalized dog tags, refreshments and more. Located at Ft Mc Coy's Commemorative Area  
       
June 5-8   Sparta Butterfest Celebration  
    Sparta's Memorial Park Complex, adjacent to Hwy 21 E
Come & enjoy Sparta's popular Butterfest Celebration! Huge carnival, live entertainment, Arts & Craft vendors, food, fest tent, Quilt Show, Antique Car Show, Softball Tournament, fun for all ages! Gigantic Parade on Sunday beginning at 12:30pm. Carnival will open on Thursday, June 5 at 6pm (weather permitting).
 
       
June 20-22   National Tractor Pull

July 4   Sparta's Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration  
    Old fashioned fun at old fashioned prices! Hot dogs, apple pie & root beer floats, bring the whole family for a fun-filled day! Different activities going on throughout the day for all ages. The Sparta Community Band & Choir will present a musical performance with a fantastic fireworks show at dusk.

    Chicken dinner. Park Activities. flower show at the community center. Friday evening is a concert in the park with Restless Heart, Saturday is an all school reunion, tractor pull, fireworks and dance and Sunday is a flower show, tractor pull and chicken dinner.

Sept 12-13   4th Annual Ben Bikin BBQ Bash  
    Held the weekend after Labor Day in September.  Be sure to be a part of the 1st Annual Ben Biken BBQ Bash and Barbeque competition. Sept. 12th & 13th, 2008  This festival, new to Sparta, is fun for the entire family, featuring several BBQ competitors, and non profit organizations vending food, a BBQ Contest sanctioned by the KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society), live music and DJ all weekend featuring Southern Kansas city style music.  Fun for the kids, games and activities.
