Welcome to Cranberry Country

Even though the village of Warrens is a peaceful place to live and work, the area's residents and visitors are still seeing red! That's because Warrens is the cranberry capital of Wisconsin, producing an average of 28.5 million pounds of cranberries annually.

Cranberries!!

Warrens, which  is located in the northeast corner of Monroe County, has the largest concentration of cranberry marshes in the state.  Over 2,000 acres of bright red berries are harvested each year.  Many of the businesses in Warrens are related to the cranberry industry.  These companies make many of the machines used in cranberry marshes throughout the United States.

For more than 25 years the village has hosted the annual Warrens Cranberry Festival in late September, drawing tens of thousands of people from all over the United States.  It was named Wisconsin's number one community festival by the readers of "Wisconsin Trails," and the number one place to bring a group by the American Bus Association. Highlights of the event include cranberry marsh tours, a cranberry recipe contest, arts  & craft booths, a farmers market, antiques/flea market and plenty of good food and cranberry products.

Camping at McMullen

Cyclists know a visit to Monroe County is not complete without wheeling through Warrens.  Warrens offers three scenic full-circle bike/auto tours through beautiful cranberry country - all on the comfort and safety of paved roads.  The Wetlands Tour, the Danavang Tour and the Morman Tour range from 22 to 33 miles taking you past cranberry marshes, sphagnum moss beds and Great Blue Heron nesting spots.  In addition, you will see sites of early Mormon, Danish and German settlements.

While visiting Warrens, make sure to stop at the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center. The Discovery Center features an exhibit hall detailing the history of cranberry production in Wisconsin, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, an in-house bakery and a gift shop offering cranberry products and the area's biggest selection of cranberry glass. For more information contact the Center at 608-378-4878.

Thousands enjoy Cranfest

What better way to experience an actual cranberry harvest than to attend the Wetherby Cranberry Company Public Harvest Day, held annually the first Saturday in October. The event is held, rain or shine, from 9 am to noon. See first hand the work that is involved in harvesting cranberries. Walk through a guided tour of the sorting and picking warehouse. See historical cranberry mills in operation along with sorting tables, bagging, and sealing machines. Fresh cranberries and Cranberry-Apple Wine available for sale at the warehouse daily through harvest season.

A trip to Warrens can be educational, recreational and simply sensational.  All in all, its a "berry" good time!
